Hymn: Remember Me

by Bryan Amundson and Michael Whatcott

Below is the result of a collaboration with a collegue. I wrote the music (Hymn #3) and he supplied lyrics for a sacrament hymn setting.

This is the second collaboration on this hymn tune! (See The Lost is Found) This is exactly the kind of collaboration I've been seeking and welcome anyone to use my harmonizations for inspiration in writing hymn texts. Enjoy!

Father we pray, through Jesus Christ our Lord,
That we are willing to obey His word,
We take His name upon us, live as did He,
What he asks of us is remember Me.

I take this bread, and witness unto thee,
That I remember He was bruised for me. His blood was shed, each drop a gift of His love,
As I drink my throughts raise to Him above.

We thus repent, and rev'rently partake,
Pray tha twe willingly our sins forsake. Please bless us with His spirit, guide us to to thee,
Not in vain He plead to remember Me.

D&C 20:77,79

77 O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this bread to the souls of all those who partake of it, that they may eat in remembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the name of thy Son, and always remember him and keep his commandments which he has given them; that they may always have his Spirit to be with them. Amen.

79 O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this wine to the souls of all those who drink of it, that they may do it in remembrance of the blood of thy Son, which was shed for them; that they may witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they do always remember him, that they may have his Spirit to be with them. Amen.
