On 1 April 2026 the Artemis II mission began. For the next ten days I could count on at least one good thing in the news. I was excited to follow their journey to the moon, which hadn't been done for over 50 years since the Apollo program. The photos of the mission, especially those taken by the astronauts of Earth and the Moon are incredible. But the photos and videos that had the most profound impact on me were those that captured the relationships and teamwork dynamics of the crew.
Just try to watch this clip without getting emotional. The crew is recommending a name for a crater on the moon that they had the opportunity to name. The commander's (Reid Wiseman) wife passed away in 2020 so the crew proposed it be named after her, after which they all just sort of melt into a teary hug.
So many amazing highlights. So many laughs. If you've got some time, watch the post-mission press-conference. Thanks, Artemis II crew, for showing us "Moon Joy"!
